Letter from a Lesser Prairie Chicken

Dear American Bird Conservancy,

I am writing to you as a concerned resident of the prairie, a Lesser Prairie Chicken, to be precise. Recently, I’ve noticed large wooden fences sprouting around my nesting area. I must say, it’s making life difficult.

These fences are tall, menacing, and utterly inconsiderate. We prairie chickens prefer open horizons, not a lumberyard maze. I’ve decided to move, not out of cowardice, but self-preservation.

Please, if you could mention to the humans that we appreciate open spaces, I’d be grateful. And while you’re at it, maybe tell them that we don’t need more fences, we need more prairie.

Respectfully,

A very stressed chicken
